Another June Adderall Pill Shortage?
75Update On The Pharmacies Running Out Of Adderall
Updated 5/13/2012:
Not likely that there will be an amphetamine pill outage this June. It was June of 2011 when the last Adderall and Dexedrine shortage began. That's when my Doctor asked me if I wanted to switch to Ritalin. He feared this would be easier to obtain legally because he knew the dextroamphetamine shortage was near.
The same Doctor told me the drug shortage was basically over two weeks ago at my bi-quarterly visit.
This is month number three, where I have had no trouble at all filling my prescription for Adderall IR Generic 30mg here in the Sarasota, Florida area. I guess it is getting easier to find because many doctors gave up on prescribing it after a year long shortage.
My doctor told me the DEA and FDA are supposed to reach an agreement very soon on the 2012 amount of amphetamine that will be released for Adderall manufacturing. He indicated that production of dextroamphetamine would go up, but by how much is unknown.
I must add, the price went down $7.00 after going up roughly $15.00 (for my script) the last four months. So ease your worried attention span and soldier on! February will be even better for those of us who take Adderall.
March News...
I was chatting with my pharacist friend at Target yesterday. He had just informed me that he only had( "3" ) three Adderall 30mg IR's in stock. He said that he ordered them, but when the order for the week came in yesterday; not only were there no addy's, but 5 of the other six controlled-substance drugs he ordered were not delivered as well. He claimed this was the first time that he has had that happen. There was no explanation. These drugs aren't considered "pariah" drugs by the industry( fentanal, the morning after pill, etc...) He even showed mre the order list because he felt that I didn't believe him. On it were oxycotin(various strengths) oxycodone, Vyvannse, Ritalin XR, and hydromorphone.(diladid) Perhaps the DEA is putting the smackdown on drug companies to limit their output of schedule III drugs? Please comment if you have any useful information.

Adderalls Saved My Mental Health
There is a reason for my noun heavy title. I will refer back to it.
Actually, It was a psychiatrist named Dr. Henry Erlich who saved my mind. He correctly diagnosed me with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) in the summer of 2006, just in the nick of time...
During the summer of 2006, I was going down fast. I had thrown in the towel on my life. I was committed to a mental ward on a "5150" hold (danger to myself or others) for evaluation. My roommate had me picked up, because I was suicidal, or at least showing tendencies toward that bitter end.
Prior to my "breakdown," I was in my mid 30's and my life was going nowhere. I couldn't get anything going. My lifetime companion, procrastination , had hit an all-time high. Some day's I didn't leave the house; or leave the bed come to think of it. I was getting fired from every McJob I had. I was self medicating with pain killers and cocaine.Taking these drugs did something to my brain to make life tolerable somehow; but the relief was shortlived when I ran out.
I inadvertently sabotaged every relationship I had with everybody. I was mentally stagnant, depressed, my state of mind was pretty grim. I had all these great ideas that I couldn't get out of gear. The frustration of all this led my to new ways of numbing myself into oblivion. Sleep therapy was what a gravitated toward before I got help. I didn't want to be in my life anymore; and when I slept, there was the possibility of dreaming to carry me away.
As I mentioned earily, my roommate got me some help. When I got released, I finally sought the help of a shrink. After some probing questions, he immediately knew what was wrong. He told me I had a "classic case" of ADD, or Attention Deficit Disorder. This disorder also goes by, ADHD, which has the word "hyperactivity" in there, and pertains more to children. For adults, they usually use "ADD."
I learned that I had this disorder my whole life in one form or another. ADD basically stems from a lack of the brain chemical dopamine. When I was a kid I was hyperactive and distracted in elementary school. My mind was impulsive. This impulsively manifested itself in disruptive behavior, stemming from a complete lack of focus and direction. Although I was considered gifted, my thoughts were tangential. My mind was off everywhere, eventually ending up on a foggy mountain, broke down road to nowhere. I know this metaphor sounds dramatic, but this is an accurate description of where I was. Or where I wasn't rather.
He prescribed me 20mg of Adderall (amphetamine salt) 10 mg in the morning, 10 mg in the afternoon. Adderall increases the amount of dopamine in your pre-frontal cortex. Immediately the drug quieted my screaming mind. It straightened out my meandering thought streams. The drug effectively slowed down bouncing crazy ideas, and enabled me to complete tasks over long periods of time. Taking Adderall also curbed my need to use other drugs to self-medicate.
If you think you have ADD, or know that you have it; hopefully you gleaned some information from this hub. There is hope for your situation. Remember, this is my specific situation , and everybody has different brain chemistry.
I told you how Adderall works in the cortex of the brain by kick staring dompamine. That's why people that really have ADHD, actually slow down after dosing. They get their dompanine up alot. Just to the level of a "normal" functioning brain.
If Someone like Snooki from "Jersey Shore" who has no problem focusing and being energetic, took Adderall(or snorted it in the bathroom of The Union) she would have took much Dopamine, which manifests itself into physical energy causing the brain has way much more than it needs. I don't think she has too many brain cells to play around with. IMO.
I am not a lobbyist for the drug companies. Maybe Adderall is the answer, maybe it isn't. Perhaps there is another drug better suited for you? Maybe a little cognitive therapy the key for you? Whatever treatment is right you, the important thing is, there is a treatment to your ADD! Trust me, if your brain can screw itself up, it is capable of fixing itself. It's worth looking into. Adderalls aren't evil if taken responsibly, or given to children too young. I think 10 and under is too young to be on a low does of speed. I don't have kids, so my opinion doesn't carry much weight. I wish I had Adderalls in High School, cause my interesting classes were sheer torture, and Adderalls would have helped.

I have adult adhd, and I know for a fact that adderall saved me, but I was in a bad place before I was diagnosed. It almost seems like a light switch was turned on in a dark room when I received the diagnosis.
Great Hub.

They wanted me on Ritalin when I was six and again at seven. When my Dad found out that it is a significant brain altering chemical he said, "Hell no! My son it's crazy, he's fucking bored. That's when my teachers started me the next year a grade higher. To challenge the young Nape. I went from the highest IQ in one class, to the middle of the road in an order, more difficult one. My brain is burdensome most days. Hold me baby. If you are out there?
